Carol Bramley, Planning & Zoning
Carol has been a Litchfield resident for more than 40 years. Upon moving to town, she restored an historic house on North Street, retired from nursing and became an active volunteer while raising two daughters, who were graduated from Litchfield High School. Subsequent to residing on North Street, Carol also lived and restored homes on East Chestnut Hill and in Milton.
During her early years in Litchfield, Carol became a member of the League of Women Voters, participating in committees studying town-owned facilities and updating Litchfield’s Plan of Conservation and Development (POCAD). At the same time, Carol was appointed to both the Borough of Litchfield and Milton Historic District Commissions. This experience inspired her interest in Planning and Zoning.
Elected to P&Z in 1991, Carol served until 1999. She was elected again in 2011, has served through the present time and was voted chairman in both time periods for a total of eight of her twenty years on the commission. Carol says, “With my appreciation for Litchfield’s special sense of community and my experience gained over many years, I bring to the position an understanding of our diverse population and the special concerns of our various neighborhoods. Zoning is a balancing act between one resident’s wishes and those of his neighbor. Times and attitudes are changing and so should zoning regulations.
The key is to keep the integrity and desirability of the community as a great place to live and raise a family.”
