Public Hearing re: Courthouse as Town Hall & Bantam Annex to Housing Trust
Plumb Hill Rd
On Wed. Oct. 17 there will be a very important Town Hall Meeting at Litchfield Intermediate School auditorium re: use of the Courthouse on the Green as a town hall, costing an estimated $7.6 million. This portion of the meeting will start at 7 pm.
At 8 pm there will be a presentation about giving away the town-owned Bantam Annex and 10.5 acres it sits on to the Litchfield Housing Trust for affordable housing. The Annex is currently used by Litchfield Parks and Rec, P&Z and Inland Wetlands Commissions, the fire marshal and US Post Office. The Annex also housed the Oliver Wolcott Library during recent renovations. One question is where will these offices go if the Annex is given up? Is a renovated Courthouse large enough for the Annex + Town Hall offices, even without the Post Office? Does the town want to give up income generated from the Bantam P.O.? Is a renovated Annex a better idea for a Town Hall than the Courthouse, considering space, energy efficiency and renovation costs? There are many questions. Please attend so that the Town makes sound decisions on these matters.
