Attn re: YOUR TOWN-YOUR TAX DOLLARS. Bantam Annex walk-thru scheduled for SATURDAY, 10 am-3 pm, April 27. Town meeting to discuss future uses follows on Tuesday April 30 at Litchfield Firehouse, 7 pm.
Summary:
Fixing/updating the old Bantam School (a.k.a. “Annex”), now used for various town offices, Parks & Rec programs including a gym, and US post office, will cost $3M. The Annex is large enough to accommodate all town offices right now, plus we would keep current uses.  The Annex was designed by famed architect Marcel Breuer, who designed the original Whitney Museum in NYC, now known as the Met Breuer.

Updating the current Town Hall (TH) will likewise cost $3M, but needs further million$ for an addition bc the TH is not large enough for all offices. A recent news article states the total will cost $5M, but a previous TH Review Committee study estimated $11M for current TH renovation and addition, with no gym or post office.

The Board of Selectmen has said the Annex was never considered for a town hall bc it’s not in the center of town, yet it appears right now the most cost effective solution and is already large enough for all town offices (plus we keep the gym and post office). However, the condition is in question; thus, a petition for a walk-thru followed by a Town Meeting to discuss potential future uses was circulated and in just a few days, 173 signatures were gathered. The town meeting is scheduled for Tues. April 30 at Litchfld Firehouse, 7 pm.
Pls forward to your lists. Thank you.
